“GIRLS UNIVERSITY” — AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM THAT INTRODUCES GIRLS TO STEAM — TO OPEN SECOND LOCATION IN HARTSVILLE
MOTIVATE. INSPIRE. EDUCATE.
“Leadership tomorrow depends on how we educate our students today—especially in science, technology, engineering and math.”— President Barack Obama, September 16, 2010
Hartsville, SC – July 30, 2019- Girls University, Florence’s first gender-based afterschool academy, is scheduled to open their second location in Hartsville on August 19, 2019. Partnering with the City of Hartsville Parks and Recreation Department, the second location will utilize the Coach T.B. Thomas Sports Center to continue their mission of introducing girls to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math).
Girls University’s initiative is designed to motivate, inspire and educate girls in the Pee Dee region to become products of success, not society. Identifying the need to provide girls with specialized enrichment programming combined with an afterschool safe haven provides a unique niche for Girls University. Recognizing the importance of providing girls with an opportunity to participate in science, technology and engineering fields and a chance for success was the brain child behind the academy.
Girls University not only aims to provide quality non-traditional afterschool care but is also a place where girls can attend workshops, host birthday parties, receive academic tutoring and mentoring, and have access to speakers from various professions.
Girls University will host a Ribbon Cutting event on Tuesday, August 13th, 2019 at their location at the Coach T.B. Thomas Sports Center located at 701 W Washington St, Hartsville, SC 29550 at 3:00 p.m.
